Live from the ER
In Response To: Tragedy ()

Today was the first time since last Tuesday that I had time to log on to this website. I am the Nursing Director of one of the ER's you may have seen on the TV...it was gratifying to know that you are thinking of us....
That morning was like any other and then came this surreal news....at first we prepared quickly, having been through this before (we thought....how wrong we were!)
After the flurry of getting everyone to "battle stations" there was about 20 minutes of waiting....and then the floodgates opened...250 in the first 3 hours....it was 4pm before we slowed down....
Little did we know that the decrease would lead to a trickle , would lead to no one being pulled from the wreckage after the second morning.....I agree with my fellow New Yorker in the previous message....these are real people with real families that have to be told "no...he's not on the list" over and over and over ....each of us and I guess each of you have had to deal with the loss of hope....such a fragile thing.....
It has been difficult....but what has kept us going at my site is the messages and prayers I have been getting from all over the world....mostly other ER's but other folks as well....Melbourne, New Zealand, London, Dublin, Denver, Billings and Florida....and on and on....and then your website.....
This has affected all of us....don't ever think your contribution is too small or insignificant...if it's volunteering, a donation, a song or just getting up and going to work in the morning....it counts....we are all damaged....we are all New Yorkers....we are all Americans.....
Thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.....
