A Cafe Carpe Moment

I followed Michael's career forever and we had a few significant moments of chat and sharing as we had a number of mutual friends. We moved beyond "how are you" to another level a few years ago at a small concert at the legendary Cafe Carpe in Ft. Atkinson. Michael was just beginning to perform again after heart surgery (who else would have a surgeon that brought him home to recover at the surgeon's house). We shared that journey after the concert, I told him the depth of his impact on me and he gave me a big hug. After that, some friendship. Like so many other recollections on this site he also encouraged me to continue music and photography even if it was only for an audience of one. "you have to love doing it for it." A sentiment echoed from an interview with Dave Moore in the Twin Cities years ago. As with all great artists Michael's work will live on thanks to the canvas of recordings. Hopefully, copyright permitting and with the permission of family more "basement tapes" can also be brought to light.
