Comments: Hello Michael,
We often think about you, listen to your music constantly, and think about those crazy times at Greeley when we were young and, well, crazy. I heard from an old classmate that Donny Sloan died of complications from Aides. I don't know if you remember him. We lost contact with all of the old Greeley bunch so it came as kind of a shock to hear about Donny. Anyway, we would love to talk to you sometime soon. It doesn't look like your schedule includes any concerts here in the Northwest, but we keep hoping.
Regards,
Tim and Nancy Vogel

I was introduced to your music back in 1977 and saw my first concert at Bemidji State. I also saw you many times on Dec.26. It has been almost 20 years since I've seen you in concert and I do miss them. Do you ever even come to this part of the country to perform? Enjoy the website.

I am not sure if Michael personally reads these, but I thought I would take the chance anyways. For many years I have been a great fan of Michael's lyrics and how I enjoy seeing him in concert!!! Living in northern MN, I have traveled to Mpls and also to Bemidji to see him.
For the past four years I have been living with a chronic illness called MS. And my illness has been really hard on my body and there are lots of times I am either home bound or in the hospital. And when I have days that I am so sick I listen to Michael's music and it just makes me feel so much better!!!! I would love to be able to see him again in concert to thank him personally for sharing his talents with all of us.
Thank you Michael for your energy, your love of music and the gift of sharing it!!!
Blessings sent to you, Debra

Comments: Michael,
It is always a musical pleasure to hear you. It was wonderful having the other musicians to play with and for you to play. I was totally serious about the Christmas CD. I really think an a cappella tune is the way to close it and I would love to assist you on that in any way that I can. It would be an honor for me to work on such a beloved project with an artist that I admire, respect and just downright enjoy. If you ever get a request for a vocal arrangement of any of your tunes, let me know. I look forward to hearing and seeing you soon.

Name: Sean O'Shea City & State: Nashville, TN & Woodstock, CT Source: Bought latest CD! :-) Comments: At 17 years old, I would lie in bed at night with headphones listening to my Michael Johnson tapes. He greatly inspired me to further my own singing and songwriting. I'm now in Nashville and Mr. Johnson is a part of the inspiration from my early years that made me make this leap of Faith. Of course, schmoozing at the Bluebird Cafe is obligatory and while there I learned of his upcoming appearance. I bought "live at the Bluebird" last night and listened when I got home. The rich voice and tasteful guitar styles brought tears to my eyes-- as though I heard the voice of a dear old friend. I'm sure this might sound somewhat melodramatic, but I owe Michael Johnson much thanks and hope to tell him so on September 6th. For years, I sang "Doors" in horrible little clubs, but often was able to captivate the attention of drunken fools long enough for them to ask "what was THAT?!?" "Michael Johnson" I replied proudly. Thanks, folks for this opportunity to share this. www.singspiritstudios.com

I just wanted to thank you for your gift of both music and the written word. I have been a fan since I was a teenager and my older brother bought "There is a breeze" LP. We absolutely wore that album out. You were totally inspired during that recording. I don't think it was a super hit or anything, but it was a major hit in my life. I am a singer/songwriter/hack who plays at open mics around Boston, MA. I just want to thank you for being one of my favorite singer/songwriters of all time. I have only 4 that I totally respect, JT, Cat Stevens, Jim Croce and you!
I was so happy when I was able to get a CD (imported from Japan) a few years ago of "there is a breeze". Rooty toot toot for the moon was always my favorite. I felt like a teenager again when I listened once again just a few years ago.
I wish you well,

Name: Rick Boyd City & State: Mason City, IA Source: Yahoo - been a MJ fan since the 70s Comments: Michael,
I got into radio back in the late 70s and you quickly became my favorite artist. Among the Chicago, Doobies, Carole King and Fleetwood Mac songs I would play "I Know This Night Won't Last Forever", "Love and Sex" or "Mr. Arthur's Place". In fact, I met Thom Bishop at the station where I was working (Champaign, IL) and told him I liked your version of his song best. I don't recall the response. Anyway, I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your music. I played your albums over and over...Dialogue was probably my favorite of the vinyl era, though You Can Call Me Blue was good, too. I got out of radio in the mid-80s, but was born again in 91, and was in a Christian Bookstore about 93 or so and heard this oh-so-familiar voice. Sure enough, it was yours on the Precious Child CD. I'm very curious, do you know the Lord? I was called to Christian Radio back in 97, called to a unique ministry in Blue Earth, Minnesota, and found out you are from MN and are in the Hall of Fame in New Ulm (in the listening area of KJLY). Anyway, my boss and I, who is also a MJ fan, were planning to see you in Owatonna a few years ago when the weather turned bad (it was December), we turned around and went home. Just wanted to tell you that I appreciate you. You have been a pretty big part of my life...at a distance, but in my heart.

I doubt that any of us realized just what we had going for us in the old days but my exposure to yourself and the likes of Fred and Ed Holstien, John Prine, Leo Kotkee, Tom Dundee, Mark Henley, Dick Pinney, Dave "Snaker" Ray, Greg Brown, Saddle Creek, and the list goes on and on but very importantly, at least in my opinion, and truely at your expense, Steve Goodman, had a tremendous effect on my life. By the way, I was at Karen and Bill's when you took the spill on the motorcycle, broke your collarbone and asked Steve Goodman to fill in for your sold out show that night. It was my job to meet Steve at the front door of the Web, get he and his guitar out of the car and into the building and then park the car (a light blue Pinto I think!)
Anyhow, thanks for the memories - looking forward to seeing you again. I caught your show at "On the Waterfront" a few years ago but couldn't get backstage to say "Hello"
Later,
Bill

At the time I asked if there were any plans for future performances out West. No smoke, no drunks, no flying beer mugs, no travelling [well - I kind of miss the travelling - but only because I'm not a musical nomad anymore], I get to sing my songs as soon as they are written, have an incredible drummer & very innovative keyboard player/percussionist/graphics animator, pretty good sound system . . .
God is good.
I identify with one of your comments about your guitaring and your singing, though it seems like you have a stronger claim to 'made it' status than I have - though, by your definition, that's debatable!
All the best,

My name is David and I just wanted to tell you how much your music has meant to me. Some of my favorite memories as a little kid are driving home from a day in The Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) late at night, falling asleep in the back seat of the car listening to "That's That" and "Wings". I went to the last two Christmas concerts you did and I saw you at the State Fair last year and I am wondering why you are not doing any concerts this year in my area. I am fifteen years old and I know one other person my age who likes your music as much as I do. She has never seen one of your live shows, and even though I let her borrow "Live at the Bluebird Cafe" I think seeing you on stage and being able to shake your hand after the show is something she should be able to experience. Thanks for the memories and the best music I have ever heard.
Sincerely, David Wang

Name: Bill "ORANGE" Lyons City & State: Nashville, TN Source: Google search engine Comments: Dear Michael and/or Cindy,
I am truly looking forward to Sunday's concert. As a musician myself, music touches me that much deeper. Bare with me a moment as I share how important Michael's music has been in my life.
I first came upon "There Is A Breeze" in 1973 at the record store I worked. My girlfriend at that time had just (within the last 18 hours) left me for her "old" boyfriend. "There Is A Breeze" helped me get through that. A couple of years later I became very upset at my half-brother. He was in Omaha and found "Ain't Dis..." and "For All You..." and even though he didn't know who Michael Johnson was and at that time was my favorite artist, he kept the albums instead of giving them to me for my birthday present. (He'd paid $.99 for each). In 1980 I played "You Can Call Me Blue" for a fabulous weekend with my college sweetheart. Unfortunately on the way back to college from that weekend in Maine she decided she just wanted to be friends. "Empty Hearts" and "Don't Ask Why" became my anthems..."Give Me Wings" got me through a rough relationship in the early 90s...In the mid 90s "Company Man" and "Departure" (my fav of all time) were just beautiful creations of music that just make you feel good (even when the thematic material may not be happy).
I turn 50 next Wednesday. I can't sing anymore (some problem that the doctors were never able to rectify). I just moved here from CA with my wife of almost two years and turning 50 has been tougher than I thought. So I am really looking forward to hearing my favorite musician perform (and to buy the first "MJ Early Years" cd so I can tell my brother that I HAVE IT and I got it for my birthday!).
Thank you, Michael for your music, your poems, your spirit and the love you share through your music. You have been truly blessed and I am truly blessed to have been a recipient of your musical blessings. Thanks for being there musically. I hope to see you and get you to sign my "MJ Early Years" CD.
Your Biggest ORANGE fan,

Name: Joan City & State: Saint Louis Park, MN Source: My sister got it at Hopkins, MN Dec. 26th Concert Comments: Yippee, skippee!! I'm singing again! Unfortunatly, I missed the Dec. 26, 2003 concert, but thank God my sisters and mom attended and heard about this website ("Ann" was the one who remembered seeing Michael frequently many years ago, playing frisbee with friends and a dog, while she was walking home along Hidden Valley Road in Minnetonka).
I had a few of Michael's albums in the 70's, and I used to play the heck out of them. Then one night in 1979, in an apparently not-so-rare moment of temporary insanity, I panicked and sent them home with my boyfriend--along with pretty much all of my favorite albums, for "safekeeping"...a new roommate had moved in, bringing with her a wicked, evil, dastardly, very scary stereo with a needle about as effective as a large crochet hook...which would have done considerably less damage to my vinyls, no doubt! I kept a few less important albums around, so as not to raise too much suspicion--phew! I was feelin' pretty smug and thinkin', "Ain't dis da life deluxe!"
Honestly, I thought I could trust him, but it turned out that half of his blood was Cain's blood -- a couple of weeks later he was singing "give me Wings", while my tune back to him was "there is a train every day, leaving either way." I fully expected him to do the honorable thing and return my precious possessions--NO SUCH LUCK--the CAD!
I never, ever expected that my polite, civilized requests for the return of my very own property would erode after 1-2 years into bouts of downright begging--all seeming to fall on deaf ears, just "chasing daisies...." Who knew that 20+ years later I'd still be "bluer than blue", thinking "life's a bitch (and then you die"), very much missing my music, but now, not being able to find it!
As the "waters of my soul were getting drier", Michael Johnson returned to the Twin Cities for another post-Christmas evening. Once my sisters had relayed to me their rave reviews and mentioned the website, I found it and rejoyced at it's order page. In a very short time, most of the 20+years melted away when my sister called to tell me "O B Glad, today is the one day...you've been waiting to...sing it one more time again!" My CD's had arrived! Michael, "you(-r music) still makes my heart turn over"--and it's even digital! Scratches won't be such a hazard, but I won't make the same mistake twice!!!
Now, if I could just find The Michael Johnson Album, I would once again experience "how lovely the good life can be!" Thanks for many lovely hours spent in live or recorded listening enjoyment--here's to many more--and I hope to catch you next Dec. 26th.

We have listened and loved you for years. We did finally catch a concert in Cody,Wy several years ago and was truly amazed. Your sound never lets us down! I was browsing the net to find out which album contained "Rosalee" on it as our daughter is getting married and wants this played at her reception, her name is Rosa and although her middle name is not Lee, we would always sing this song to her and sub her middle name Lane instead. We live in Soldotna, AK now and not long ago you were in Kenai, but because of schedules we could not make it. Hope you come back. You have and will continue to entertain us for hours.

Name: Rick Scheideman City & State: Denver, Colorado Comments: Hi Michael,
We met in Greeley, probably 1962, maybe a bit into 1963. I'm not sure how we met. I remember singing and playing together in your apartment near Glenmere Park and Greeley Central High School. Another recollection was going to Denver a couple of times to hear you perform at the Tangerine Room on Colorado Blvd.
I recall being struck by your playing, your ability to listen to a song on an LP and figure it out quickly. I recall being warmed by your performances in the way that Bob Grossman, who came to Greeley some time later, stirred me and many others along the way.
Recently, I recorded a CD and enlisted the help of a bass player friend from those Greeley days, Gary Auten. In the midst of working on the album he showed me a video of you with John Denver and another singer filmed in NYC, and Gary also had several of your albums that he let me borrow and it was memorable to hear the singing and playing I enjoyed years ago. This is the first time I've been to your web site. I appreciate the articles written for Singer-Songwriter, your experience and your humor ring true to me experience.
I live in Denver. I sing and play (still nylon strings, now of a flamenco flavor), including a year-long gig up in Evergreen that has enabled the chops. I have worked for several years as an actor and I do local touring with a one-man Mark Twain, Child's Christmas in Wales, Old Man and the Sea etc. As I catch a glimpse of your playing, performing and recording life through the albums and commentary, I too find it amazing that we can be smitten for life with "a good guitar and a whaling song". Though I've done some other things, still, a heart-ful song strikes me deeply. Happily, the past few years I've been able to return to singing and playing more fully and more often. It sounds to me that you've been able to fulfill several dreams, and more, you've come to let go of dreams that no longer have meaning. That sounds like wisdom to me.
My warm regards to you,
Rick Scheideman

Name: Eivind Oland City & State: Sioux Falls, SD Source: Info given to me by Kirby Schulz Comments: Michael, I have enjoyed your music since the late 70's. I took my girlfriend to your concert at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN (1978?) and loved it - got married to her the next year and have been married for 24 years. I guess you could say we've been dating 31 of our 46 years.
Michael, I was thrilled to get reacquainted to some of your music when you performed at the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce event three years ago. That night my wife, Charisse, was introduced as the incoming Chamber president and John Glenn and Tom Daschle were also guests. Charisse is the CEO of a children's hospital in Sioux Falls - Sylvia Henkin has been a Board member for many years. Your performance at the Washington Pavillion and the "Ponies" video were awesome!!
Since that time I have played some of your CD's to the point of driving my kids nuts. We have a cabin in the pines of N. Minnesota and put in a lot of road time - if I'm alone I can play your "Departure" album and sing to it until I need a change. This fall it kept me going on a couple of round trips! Well, it must have had some influence on my middle child (17 year old son, Christian), as he plays acoustic guitar now and is crazy over Leo Kottke. He drove to Winona earlier this fall to see him and sit in the front row! He likes your music, however since it is "my" music he must certainly have his own distinct musical identity. I am an old trumpet player and share spots in a local community band in the summer alongside my other son who is only 12 (Gabriel).
Michael, last winter I was visiting with Kirby Schulz at their great open house and he mentioned your friendship. We enjoyed visiting about your music, and I mentioned that I was always intrigued about the meaning of the lyrics of one of my favorite songs - "Imogene". Sounds crazy, but I have enjoyed this song 100 times and yet not understood it...I thought about this many times while travelling recently and finally decided I had better inquire directly!
I have always been a fan of love songs and balladeers - yourself, David Gates, James Taylor, Fogelberg, Michael English (contemp. Christian), etc., who are good lyricists. I need to catch up on some of your more current musical releases.
Michael, thanks for all of your contributions - if you get a chance, could you have someone drop me a line regarding "Imogene"? I've got you on the calendar for your February appearance in Sioux Falls. Have a wonderful Holiday Season!! - Sincerely, Eivind Oland

I'll try this one and see what happens. I send you greetings from San Francisco where I have been living and working since 1984. I was unpacking some things that were in storage and Wings was among them, a cassette! Shows how long I've been out of the loop. Anyway, the sound of your voice inspired me to go to the web and type your name in. The article by Kandy Crosby came up and when I read about your annual Christmas Eve show and she asked what you might want for Christmas, I thought maybe you'd like a song that I wrote with Nancy Schimmel (Malvina Reynolds' kid). It's called Mrs. Claus and it's really cute. Nancy and I are pretty low tech and not marketing inclined so the song hasn't really been done much. Anyway, I just thought it would be fun to send it to you as a hello out of cyberspace from one who has so many fond memories of you. Somewhere I have a copy of New Release, the pilot we shot with you in Cleveland oh so many years ago....thought your kids would get a kick out of it and maybe I gave you a copy long ago. Don't remember. At any rate, it's always great to hear your voice and I'm so glad to see you are enjoying success and keeping busy doing what you love. Me too. I've written a full length musical that I'm trying to get produced among other things. Did a lot of childrens' music with Nancy Schimmel and in fact, a lot of our stuff is going to be done by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra in the spring. It's an Earth Day symphony show with children's chorus called All In This Together. I myself don't perform anymore. I teach a lot, mostly composition and singing. I teach little kids how to write their own musicals and operas. It's a kick. Hard work though. I live in the most beautiful city in the world, at least in my world, San Francisco. Have worked with Nina Gerber and Laurie Lewis who know your work well. Nina thinks and I agree, that you are the most monstrously good guitarist. Anyway, I won't keep you. Please let me know where I could send Mrs. Claus. You will love her, I promise! Take care and Merry everything. Candy

Good to see you are alive and kickin' Michael. Maybe see you in Austin sometime?

Comments: My husband introduced me to your music the summer before we married (1985). I loved the lyrics. We are rather conservative Christians and it rather blew some of our friends' minds when we included "The Good Life" into our wedding ceremony. I've always been grateful that our pastor trusted us to choose the music. It was my husband's first marriage and my second and I had been badly abused; some of the lyrics were just exactly how things fit for us. Thanks for your music -- it is uncommon, both lyrically and musically. We hope to get to one of your musical events. Glad I thought to try to find you. I've always thought it would bless you to know just how "Good Life" was used and has been a hallmark for our marriage. CJN

Name: Mike Milbrath City & State: Santa Rosa, Ca Source: Listening to your music Comments: Many years ago 1973 I heard you at a concert at Augsburg College. I was a freshman music major who had a basic understanding of the guitar. Your playing overwhelmed me. Your cvapacity to combine your guitar with vocals shimmered. That night I wanted nothing more in the world than to do just that. I still remember this bizarre rendition of Take Me Out To th Ball Game done in what seemed six different time signatures.
I bought you albums and listened and worked. I found a man in MPLS Dan Perry who also played and sang wonderfully and i'd go to the bars he played just for a guitar lesson. The more beers I drank the more expensive the lesson.
I became a theatre major. I graduated. I began singing in local clubs, I decided to begin dancing at the age of 25 and 2 years later was teaching in MPLS. Somewhere along the line I shipped you a demo for your consideration. The tune i thought was perfect I now look back on with chagrin. It was simply too naive and simplistic. I moved to NY to follow a girl and had my heart handed to me. I was too proud to return to Mpls so I stayed. I pulled my guitar out after a long hiatus and there was your music again. I choreographed, danced, composed, and produced concerts for 4 years in NY and didn't make a dime. It was great.
I moved to Ca with my wife 16 years ago. I went back to school to become a teacher. A job I now have had for 10 years. I am the choir & theatre director at a local high school. And your music still speaks to me.
When I choose music for my groups I always look for pieces that are timeless. And for my own enjoyment your music holds the same for me.
I just recorded 18 tunes with my choir the other night and the level of commitment they gave to the music was astounding. They new their efforts would be set in stone that night and they responded. It was glorius.
I often long to have my own creative time. Teaching is wonderful and tpo tell the truth I'm probably better at it than anything else I've ever done and yet I long to turn a phrase to a melody in such a way that it woulf touch someone.
I enjoyed your sight. Your reflections from the road brought back many memories.(The Pas Manitoba springs to mind. SHUDDER!!) Aside from being one of the people I most want to listen to, you also seem to be a very thoughtful and glib observer of this world. It is appreciated.
I hope you might respond but, if not know I will always love your music. My singing "May You Never" has become a tradition in spring for my graduating seniors.
Thanks much,
M.M.

Name: Doug Ray City & State: Fresno, California Source: just did a search for michael johnson Comments: Michael,
I first heard Bluer than Blue in the summer of 1978 when I was traveling in England. I think that the song was number one over there, which was great. It meant that your song was on the radio all the time. Radio was soon to be my calling. I worked on an Adult Contemporary station in Soutern California from 1980 to 1988. There, we played a lot of stuff from the Michael Johnson album and Dialogue.
I taped them for myself and still have those cassettes. Every once in a while I'll check a music store to see if you have new stuff.
I bought Departure and Then and Now when they came out. However, I have always wanted to go back and start getting your first recordings.
I had some spare time tonight and did a search for your name and found this awesome website. I'm going to use it to get your early records and your concert album. Currently, I do a morning show on an Oldies Station, so don't get to play Michael Johnson. You can bet that I play your music in the truck and my boys love it.
One of these days I would like to see you perform. If you're ever in California, from San Diego to San Francisco, or even as close as Las Vegas, I'll be there. Maybe, on my vacation, I'll travel to see you.
Since my dad was in the service, we have friends everywhere.
I hope that you continue to make music. You've got a talent to really move people and that is so very special.

I just want to say that I am 35 years old and I was just a kid when bluer than blue came out. I have to research it but I think it was about 1976. That is just off the top of my head. I will find out when you released it by reading about you and your songs I hope. Anyway I think I was about 11 or so but I really loved the song and always liked to sing with it when it came on. About 2 years ago I downloaded an MP3 of it off Napster(sorry I didn't pay for it lol) and I periodically listen to it. It is probably my favorite out of the big napster download collection I would say. Also I wanted to say I had my mother drop by my place the other day and I let her here some new pc speakers I just bought. I played bluer than blue and she was on cloud 9!! She hadn't heard it for years I think. Of course she isn't listening to the right channels right? Just wanted to say that song is still great today. I will go find out other songs I may know of yours too. Gotta go, good luck as a contemporary artist or songwriter. Let me know if you play in the far northern california area. Thanks Steven J Schromm

I've listened to and loved your music since you gave a concert at Goodman Auditorium in Virginia, MN (Iron Range) in the fall of 1975. I was eighteen and a freshman in college then and you had just released For All You Mad Musicians. I heard you again after that, a number of times, in Bemidji and Minneapolis. You were one of my inspirations to start playing guitar, which I still do.
I was overjoyed that you released those first three albums on CD--I had been waiting and hoping for that. I've come to your web site again today to order another copy for a friend of mine who also listened to your music back in the old days.
I'm settled now, teaching English at a small Catholic college near here. Almost thirty years after I first heard There is a Breeze, I'm still listening to it. . .
I hope I get a chance to catch you again in concert.
Take care.

Nevertheless, for those of us who, for whatever reason, still struggle to find and further our own 'voices', it is a huge assist to have honest singer/songwriters successfully plying their trade. Especially at a time when we're all surrounded by these banquet tables of conglomerate-backed noise, packing so little "nutrition".
Thanks for the continuing sustenance!

Did you do that song? It was so beautiful, I just loved it. Please let me know if possible. It's been over a year now.

I love your music! I noticed from a Greeley Philharmonic brochure that you will be a guest artist in February.
As a representative of UNC, I would be very interested in meeting you. Could we arrange a time prior to the February Pops concert?
Although I was not familiar with your music prior to finding your web site, I am now very eager to begin a collection of your work. Incredible!
I look forward to meeting you.

Name: Lee Jones City & State: springfield or Source: luck Comments: I played a couple of gigs back in 1990 or so with Michael....I was actually playing with Dave & Sugar, but Michael was there too creating incredible music as always. I remember telling him I'd love to play with him sometime, what an incredible talent. Now I'm creating commercials for radio, a far cry from the inspiration that he provides through his music, but still my hat in the ring nontheless. They will at least be the best commercials you'll hear! I'm working with a near Michael Johnson caliber guitarist or I could never make that claim. My best to Michael, he's the best.

Great web site. I have just read your articles on life as a performer and they are classics. I travel a lot and I have had my share of adventures. I want to order some of your CDs - especially the ones that you recorded at 101 Fox Hill Court. My 11 year old daughter has claimed that room, and it would be neat to have the music recorded there. Can you please forward the names of the CDs. Happy holidays and keep the faith.

Anyway, hope all iswell with your life and your loves. It was a pleasure to have met you.

Name: michael glenn City & State: washington dc Source: yahoo Comments: one of the earliest memories i have in life is of one of your concerts at gustavus adolphus college's alumni hall. i was sitting in the middle of the eisle with a friend of mine talking to you about how much my dad loved your music. it became an annual event for my family to go see your show. i saw every one, not always from the eisle, from when i was wee until about fifteen.
then, the ridiculous time in a boy's life when he's "too cool" to do things with his dad, a reminiscence where regret has no equal. thank god it only last a while.
i ended up attenting gustavus and every year, when december rolled around, i would trek (and you KNOW what that trek looks like in december) over to bjorling to see the show. i'd meet up with my parents and sit with them during the concert.
now it's years later, and i'm eeking out a living as a mostly-working actor in washington dc. you don't come out here. why don't you come out here? i wish you would come out here. i mean, i like the foo fighters and all, but what is it about this place? is it the whitehouse pet? the crime? the redskins?
at any rate, i just wanted to thank you with everything in me for giving me the most amazing aural sense memory of my family, especially my father, i could ask for being this far away.
oh yeah, and thanks for old yellow car.

Name: Bill Herrmann City & State: Washington, D.C. Source: Google.com Comments: One day, maybe 7-10 years ago, I was driving in my car listening to the radio and I heard a version of Bluesette played on a Classical guitar. The composition was incredible. I didn't catch the artist's name and I should have stopped and called the station immediately. But like a fool, I drove on. I've been searching for that piece ever since ( sort of like a search for the holy grail ). With the internet, I may have a chance. I searched on "bluesette" and "classical guitar" and came to Michael's Web page. I'll try to find his bluesette CD somewhere and see if he is the artist. Otherwise, anyone ever hear an overpowering rendition of bluesette for classical guitar?

Name: Bethany City & State: Freeport Illinois Source: I know Michaels music well. Comments: Michael,
I just wanted to thank you again for the music Saturday night in Rockford.
We stopped over at Seranos afterward to eat and I was the tall woman that shook your hand and thanked you before we left.
Your music can really reach out and touch me, I was afraid that when John Denver died I'd lost that, and one of my biggest regrets was never writing John and telling him just how much his music affected my life. So I want to make sure I don't make the same mistake twice.
Thank you for your music, don't ever stop! I can tell when you come out with a new song/album if your life is going OK or not, just by the way the music feels, it's a direct refelction to your heart. Some people listen to music, and then there are those of us that 'feel' it. Saturday was a night full of feelings, the music touched my heart and broke it too....
Take care...and I'm looking forward to seeing you "strap on your new Dick" in Rockford real soon.

Name: Burt Salenger City & State: Jerusalem, Israel Source: searched for it Comments: Dear Michael,
Just a note of thanks for all of the wonderful albums and concerts that I and my then girlfriend (now wife with 7 kids) enjoyed back in the late 70's early 80's in Chicago. "For All You Mad Musicians" was "our" album. I was also quite thrilled that summer in '78 when I could go to any juke box in America and listen to you.
I was playing the guitar, mostly finger-style stuff, until I heard that record and discovered that I wanted to sing. In short, I've been writing and performing here in Jerusalem for the past 20 years, and have put out a few recordings, many of the arrangements are definitely in the "Michael Johnson" style. A heartful thank you. You made
a big difference in my life. And a speedy recovery from the car crash.
With affection,
Burt Salenger

I almost stopped up to speak with you after the show but, if you remember (HA) I'm shy. We met back in the 70's when you stopped by McCarthys because I think you were dating one of the waitresses... and I was dating one of the bartenders... and we exchanged comments about music. My 'brush with greatness'. Anyway, it was great to hear you... and I have a question as to whether 2 of the songs you sang have been recorded and are available: It's my Job and You Make Me Feel So So. I just loved them and would love to share them with my brother who used to perform (even at McCarthy's back in the 70's) but is now simply known as the Singing Butcher, combining his vocation with his avocation!! Great to hear you again and hope it will become an annual event at the State Fair. Warmest regards, Jeanne Tuvey
